New Delhi, December 15: Legendary tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain has reportedly been hospitalized in San Francisco due to serious health issues. While details about his condition have not been made public, updates on his health are awaited while he undergoes treatment.
The renowned musician, son of tabla legend Ustad Allah Rakha, became a global icon for his extraordinary contribution to Indian classical music. His most recent honors include winning three times at the 66th Grammy Awards, where he won the award for “Best Global Music Performance” for his work Pashto.
Upcoming India tour in doubt
Earlier, Ustad Zakir Hussain announced the ‘As We Speak’ India tour in January 2025 along with renowned artists Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Rakesh Chaurasia. The tour features a unique fusion of musical genres and has generated great anticipation among fans.
Organized by Perfect Harmony Productions in partnership with Panache Media, the multi-city event is scheduled to include performances in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. These artists have won a total of 31 Grammy Awards, including two for the 2023 album when we speak.
However, Ustad Zakir Hussain’s hospitalization has created uncertainty over the status of the tour and fans are hoping for a speedy recovery.
