Syed Modi International: PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen’s stellar form continues, reach quarter-finals

On November 28, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu defeated compatriot Ira Sharma in three games in a tough match and entered the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Syed Modi International Championship. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist and ranked 18th in the world, fought hard for 49 minutes in the second round to defeat 147th-ranked Ila 21-10, 12-21, 21-15. Sindhu has been battling poor form for some time now, with her last title coming at the 2022 Singapore Open. The 29-year-old Indian player will face Chinese player Dai Wang, ranked 118th in the world, in the next round. Wang defeated Indian player Devika Siharg 19-21 21-18 21-11 in the second round.

However, top seed Laksha Sen advanced to the quarterfinals in the second round of the men’s singles, beating Israeli Daniel Dubovenko 21-14 21-13 in 35 minutes. Raksha will face Mailaba Luwang in the quarter-finals, who beat sixth-seeded Ireland’s Anhat Nguyen 21-15 21-13.

Priyanshu Rajawat reaches quarter-finals

In other men’s singles matches, India’s Ayush Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Justin Ho 21-12 21-19, while third seed Kieran George lost to Japan’s Ogawa 21-19 20-22 11-21. Shogo. India’s second seed Priyanshu Rajawat also advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Vietnam’s Lee Duc Phat 21-15 21-8.

In women’s singles, 17-year-old unseeded Indian player Unati Hooda had an upset in the second round, defeating Thailand’s Pompicha Chokifong 21-18 22-20 in 46 minutes.
