Swiggy launches ‘Swiggy Seal’ in 650 cities – what does this mean for customers?

Online food aggregator and delivery platform Swiggy has launched a new program called ‘Swiggy Seal’ for customers in 650 Indian cities, PTI reported. The aim is to improve food quality standards and hygiene practices at the company’s restaurant partners, it added.

The initiative reportedly started in Pune and will gradually expand to other cities in November.

“Since the launch of the program two weeks ago, restaurant partners have shown strong interest and hundreds of requests for hygiene audits have been received. If any concerns arise about a restaurant holding the seal, Swiggy will thoroughly review the feedback and if the restaurant Failure to maintain the set standards may result in revocation of the badge,” Swiggy said in a release.

So, what does this mean for customers and what can you expect?

Restaurant menu pages on the Swiggy app will be branded with the ‘Swiggy Seal’ to highlight those partners with a “proven track record of delivering hygienic, high-quality meals in premium packaging”.

The company also said it will leverage its 7 million verified customer base to collect reviews of restaurants over the past six months to gain insights.

“The Swiggy Seal program is designed to improve hygiene practices in restaurants. It provides comprehensive insights and actionable support to restaurant partners to ensure hygienic, cooked food in high-quality packaging,” Swiggy added.

Insights to improve practice

Swiggy said it will share detailed reviews and feedback from verified customers with its restaurant partners, which they can use to improve practices and services.

The focus will be on “key areas” such as optimal cooking, contamination prevention and packaging quality. “These insights will allow restaurants to identify areas for improvement and implement effective hygiene practices,” it added.

Apart from customer reviews, Swiggy also plans to tie up with Food Safety Standards and Authority of India (FSSAI) certified agencies like Equinox and Eurofins to better offer its restaurant partners the opportunity to undergo professional hygiene audits at exclusive prices.
