The international border between India and Bangladesh is 4096 kilometers long. It is bordered by India on three sides. There is sea on one side. That means Bay of Bengal. A small part lies with Burma i.e. Myanmar. About 413 kilometers. If we talk about the states bordering India, they are Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya and West Bengal.

The land border between India and Bangladesh is the fifth largest land border in the world. Six divisions of Bangladesh border India. These are Mymensingh, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet and Chittegong. The states of India which share the border with Bangladesh.
Their length is as follows. 262 kilometers in Assam, 856 kilometers in Tripura, 318 kilometers in Mizoram, 443 kilometers in Meghalaya and 2217 kilometers in West Bengal.

The border of Bangladesh is very complex. There is a mixture of different geographical conditions in it. There are mountains somewhere. Somewhere in a terrible forest. Somewhere there are plains and somewhere there are rivers and streams. Therefore patrolling here is very difficult. The responsibility of its security is of Border Security Force i.e. BSF.
What is the biggest threat to this range?
If security is lax on this border, then infiltration, smuggling, human trafficking, smuggling of weapons and drugs, illegal movement of cattle increases through this border. Besides, the risk of terrorism also increases.

When have there been disputes on the border?
There have been many border disputes between India and Bangladesh. Like- Teen Bigha Corridor, Muhuri River dispute and Pirdiwah border dispute. But at present there is no dispute of any kind going on. But after Sheikh Hasina left the country, BSF is on alert on the border. Along with this, the three armies of the country also.
Efforts were also made to secure the border. Both the countries together increased the security of the border. Started joint border patrolling. Started intelligence sharing. To increase the local market on the border, border markets were started so that both the countries could get each other’s goods. Also many agreements were reached on border management.

In the year 2015, Bangladesh and India signed the Land Boundary Agreement. So that the long standing border dispute can be ended. Apart from this, again in the year 2020, an agreement was made to increase security and assistance on the border. A Joint Border Task Force was formed. Which is still working.
