The Supreme Court has taken action on the issue of snake bite deaths. A petition has been launched calling for polyvenom (antivenom) treatment to stop these deaths. In this regard, the country’s Supreme Court issued notices to the central and state governments.

Approximately 58,000 people die from snake bites every year. In this matter, the Supreme Court gave four weeks to the central government. The central and state governments have to submit their replies to the Supreme Court within four weeks.

The petition filed in the Supreme Court stated that antivenom and snake bite treatment should be provided in all government hospitals, medical colleges, primary health centres, community health centers and district hospitals across the country.
