Supreme Court orders demolition of illegal structures in Meerut Central Market

Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court issued a major order regarding illegal construction at the Central Market in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The Supreme Court has ordered the demolition of the illegal structure. To this end, shop owners were given three months to vacate illegal shops. In two weeks, the HDB will demolish illegal structures. All authorities will be involved in this operation. Failure to do so will also result in action being taken for contempt of court.

While demolishing illegal constructions, the court also ordered criminal and departmental action against all officials who carried out illegal constructions while in office.

Previously, on November 19, the Supreme Court reserved its ruling on the matter. In addition, land use status reports for 499 parcels were requested. In this regard, the Housing and Development Committee conducted a survey of Shastri Nagar Scheme 7 and Scheme 3 and reported 1,478 residential plots. Among them, commercial activities are carried out through the change of land use.

Let us tell you that the Housing Development Board had issued a notice to the businessmen of Shastri Nagar in Meerut in 1995. At that time, merchants ignored the notice. In fact, the High Court has ordered the demolition of 24 shops on Lot 661/6 of the Central Market. In Housing Development Board records, the name of the plot is Veer Singh, a resident of Kazipur.

At the same time, from 1992 to 1995, the shops built on this land were sold to businessmen. At the same time, the trader did not register it in his own name. Awas Vikas appealed from the civil court to the high court in this matter. He named Veer Singh as the owner of the property.

Traders have filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the high court order. For this, a residence permit was also obtained. But 10 years later, on November 19, the Supreme Court stayed its order in the case and sought a status report on the 499 buildings from the Housing Development Board.
