The Supreme Court on Thursday asked judges to live like saints. The Supreme Court said judges should live a saintly life and work diligently and should avoid using social media. The court said the judge should not express any opinion on the verdict. This oral opinion was delivered by Justices BV Nagarathna and N. Kotishwar Singh. The bench was hearing a case related to the dismissal of two women judicial officers by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
“Judges should avoid using Facebook”
The Supreme Court said the judiciary has no place for showing off. “Judicial officers should refrain from using Facebook,” the judge said. They should not comment on the judgment because if the judgment is handed down tomorrow, the judges may have expressed their views in some form. “This is an open forum,” the judge said. You must live like a saint and work hard. Judicial officers have to make a lot of sacrifices. They shouldn’t use Facebook at all.
“Don’t post work-related posts on Facebook”
R., senior lawyer, appeared for a dismissed female judge. Reiterating the views of the bench, Basant said no judicial officer or judge should publish any post on Facebook related to judicial work. This comes after amicus curiae and senior advocate Gaurav Aggarwal made the remarks to the bench on various complaints against the dismissed women judges. Agarwal told the judge that the female judge also made a post on Facebook.
The Supreme Court has accepted
On November 11, 2023, the Supreme Court took cognizance of the state government’s dismissal of six women civil judges for alleged poor performance. However, a collegium bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on August 1 reconsidered its earlier resolution and decided to reinstate four officers Jyoti Varkade, Ms Sonakshi Joshi, Ms Priya Sharma and Rachana Atulkar Joshi, subject to certain conditions, while two others Officials, Aditi Kumar Sharma and Sarita Chaudhary were excluded from the process. The Supreme Court is hearing the cases of judges who joined the Madhya Pradesh judiciary in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
