The much-anticipated return of Team India players since last year is finally here. Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Mohammad Shami has successfully returned to the cricket field after 360 days. Shami made his comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Group C match against Madhya Pradesh.
Shami has been sidelined due to injury since last year’s 2023 World Cup final. Shami injured his ankle and had to undergo surgery. Thereafter, he underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA, Bangalore). Although he informed about his fitness condition a few days ago, he was subsequently not selected for India’s tour of Australia. Now, Shami returned to competitive cricket through the Ranji Trophy but was unable to do anything special.
Shami was disappointed on the first day
In fact, Mohammad Shami bowled 10 balls on the first day of the match against Madhya Pradesh but did not take a wicket. The result was that Madhya Pradesh strengthened their position after the first day of play. Madhya Pradesh ended the day’s session with a score of 103 for one wicket after Bengal were bowled out for 228. Bangladesh needs to win this game to move on to the quarterfinals.
Shami scored three fours in the opening four overs and conceded 16 runs. His second round of 6 was even more impressive. In the process, he ran 18 games with a teenage girl. Shami’s fitness will be closely monitored by those associated with the BCCI and the Indian team. With his impressive performance in the domestic matches, he is likely to return to the team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Test series.
Looking forward to a better performance the next day
Shami is playing in Ranji for the first time along with his younger brother Mohammad Kaif. Kaif took the only wicket of Madhya Pradesh’s innings. He dismissed opener Himanshu Mantri with 13 runs. Madhya Pradesh’s second opener, Shubhranshu Senapati emerged at the crease after scoring 44 runs off 103 balls while India batsman Rajat Patidar ) emerged at the crease after scoring 41 runs off 55 balls.
