Indian stocks finally opened in the green on Monday after suffering sharp losses last week and ended with strong gains after active trading throughout the day. On one hand, the 30-share Sensex on the Bombay Stock Exchange closed above 80,000 points, up 600 points, while the Nifty on the National Stock Exchange closed 158 points higher. Meanwhile, 10 stocks including ICICI Bank surged wildly.
Sensex crosses 80,000
Stocks opened higher on Monday. The BSE Sensex jumped to 79,653.67 points from its previous close of 79,402.29 points. It has since risen by around 1,000 points during the day’s trading, reaching a level of 80,539.81. However, by the close, the pace slowed down but despite this, the Sensex gained 602.75 points to close at 80,005.04 points.
Nifty has also made great progress
Like Sensex, Nifty index (NSE Nifty) also rallied sharply on Monday. On the last trading day last week, the index opened at 24,251.10 points and closed at 24,180.80 points on Friday. It has since gained more than 200 points to reach the day’s high of 24,492.60. After the market closed, the Nifty’s gains slowed but ended at 24,339.15 points, a gain of 158.35 points.
These 10 stocks are doing great
Now let’s talk about the stocks that were the most out of control on the first trading day of the week, sparking a market boom. ICICI Bank stock in the large cap category of BSE closed at 1292.65 points, up 2.96%. Apart from this, Adani Ports shares closed at Rs 1,353.20, up 2.80%. JSW Steel shares rose 2.68% to close at Rs 968.45, while Tata Steel shares rose 2.50% to close at Rs 149.45. M&M’s share price also rose sharply, finally closing at 2,781.20 rupees, an increase of 2.36%.
Talking about companies in the mid-cap category, the top gainer was Indian Bank stocks, which closed at Rs 551, up 10.58%. Bandhan Bank shares also closed at Rs 185, up 9.92 per cent, while shares of Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali (Patanjali Share) touched Rs 1,756.20, up 6 per cent. Yes Bank SHARE also made a splash, closing at Rs 20.56, up 5.98%. Dongfang Electric shares (included in small-cap stocks) rose 20% to close at 252.35 rupees.
