Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake is visiting India. What I can tell you is that this is Sri Lankan President Dissanayakar’s first trip abroad after taking office, and he chose India. Mahabodhi Temple has a history of 1,500 years
Sri Lankan President Anul Kumar Dissanayakar arrived at the Gaya International Airport in Bihar and went straight to the Mahabodhi Temple. Let us tell you that the Mahabodhi Temple is 1500 years old and is one of the four holy places associated with the life of Buddha and especially with his enlightenment. The President of Sri Lanka was welcomed by Bihar Government Ministers Ri Prem Kumar and Santosh Kumar Suman and senior officials at the Gaya International Airport.
Praying under the bodhi tree
The President of Sri Lanka prayed and laid flowers under the Bodhi tree near the Mahabodhi Temple. He rang the Dharma bell in the temple and thereafter he visited many other places associated with Buddha within the temple complex. In view of Anura Kumar Dissanayake’s visit, elaborate security arrangements have been arranged around the temple.
Why is Mahabodhi Temple so famous?
Let us tell you that the Mahabodhi Temple located in Gaya district of Bihar is considered the most important pilgrimage site for Buddhist followers. It was under this Bodhi tree that Buddha attained enlightenment. The Mahabodhi Temple has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. (input language)
