Sports Quota Jobs: If you also stop your child from playing for the better future, then you are making a mistake. Because now the slogan is given that ‘you will play and jump, you will not be bad, you will become wonderful’. Many government departments including Indian Railways, Indian Army, Police, Government Banks/Universities, Public Sector recruit talented players from time to time. These departments of the Government of India are always ready to encourage the players. This would have provided job security to the players and strengthened their desire to achieve glory for the country through sports. A good example of this is former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the Territorial Army after winning the 2011 World Cup. After this rank, he goes to the Army for training from time to time. Apart from him, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh was made Deputy SP in Punjab.

Government of India Group through direct recruitment to meritorious sportspersons representing national and international events in South Asia Federation Games, Asian Games, Federation Cup, World Cup, District, State, Olympic and Commonwealth Games, USIC Championships and many other sporting activities. Appoints to any post in ‘C’ or the then existing Group ‘D’.

List of sports recruiting talented players

There are around 43 sports for which players are given jobs on the basis of merit in the following fields –
Archery, Athletics (including track and field events) Atya-Patya, Badminton, Ball-Badminton, Basketball, Billiards and Snooker, Boxing, Bridge, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Cycling, Equestrian Sports, Football, Golf, Gymnastics (including Body Building ), Handball, Hockey, Ice-skiing, Ice-hockey, Ice-skating, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate-do, Kayaking and Canoeing, Kho-kho, Polo, Powerlifting, Rifle Shooting, Roller Skating, Rowing, Soft Ball, Squash , swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weight lifting, wrestling and sailing.

Eligibility Criteria for Sports Quota Jobs
The minimum eligibility criteria for recruitment through sports quota is 10th and Intermediate. There are different selection criteria for sports quota jobs in different departments, which it is mandatory for the players to fulfill. Apart from this, there is also a provision for different eligibility criteria according to different grade pay for jobs in sports quota.

Qualification of players for government job

  • Candidate who has represented any state or country in national or international competition.
  • Candidates who have represented their university in inter-university tournaments organized by inter-university sports boards.
  • Candidates who have represented State School Teams in National Games/Games for Schools organized by All India School Sports Federation.
  • Sportsperson who has been awarded the National Award in Physical Efficiency Under the National Physical Efficiency Drive.

Eligibility for job with grade pay Rs 2,400/2,800

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any stream from any university recognized by the Government of India and must have represented the country in the Olympics/Represented the country in the World Cup/or Commonwealth Games/Asian Games/World Championships Must have secured at least third position.

Eligibility for job with grade pay Rs 1,900/2,000

Candidate must have passed 10+2 and have represented the country in any Category-B Championship/Event and have secured at least 3rd position in any Category-C Championship/Event/Senior held under the auspices of the Indian Olympic Association /Third position in Youth/Junior National Championship/National Games/First position in All India Inter University Championship or Federation Cup Championship (Senior Category) organized under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities.

Qualification for 1800 grade pay job

Have represented the country in any Category-C Championship/Event or obtained 3rd position in the Federation Cup Championship (Senior Category) or represented the State or equivalent unit in the Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships except Marathon and Cross Country OR has secured at least 3rd position in the Senior State Championships for all units and districts of the State.

Selection process for jobs under sports quota
Candidates are selected on the basis of written examination/sports trial/medical test followed by interview. Such players get preference for recruitment-

  • Who have represented the country in any international competition with the approval of the Sports Department.
  • Must have represented the State/Union Territory in senior or junior level National Championships organized by National Sports Federations recognized by the Department of Sports or National Games organized by the Indian Olympic Association and have won a medal or secured up to third position.
  • Must have represented the university in an inter-university competition organized by the Association of Indian Universities/Inter-University Sports Board and secured third position in the finals.
  • Should have participated in the National Games/Games for Schools organized by the All India School Sports Federation in schools of the State and have won medals or secured up to third position.
  • Have been awarded the National Award in Physical Efficiency Under the National Physical Efficiency Drive or have represented State/UT/University/State School teams.

Recruitment Notification for Sports Quota Jobs

Applications for recruitment of players are invited through advertisement in employment newspaper or through circular on the official website. The application received from the player by the appointing authority or higher authority is considered by the Ministry/Department or Head of the Department for further recruitment process.
