Fit India Cycling Drive was launched at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi. Indian Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also attended the event. He launched the campaign on Tuesday. The real motivation behind this initiative is to promote cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transportation. During the event, more than 500 cyclists took part in the three-kilometer journey from the stadium to Raisina Hills. Also present at the event were Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse, MP Tejashwi Surya, Paris Paralympic bronze medalist Sim Simran Sharma, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Neetu Ghanghas and Asian Games bronze medalist Preeti Pawar are among many other well-known athletes.
Special arrangements for cyclists
Mandaviya on Tuesday named the event ‘Fit India Cycling’ but it will be held on Sunday for cycling enthusiasts and will be named ‘Sunday on Cycle’. He said doctors, teachers, journalists, business professionals and young people will take part in the one-hour bicycle tour on Sunday. The initiative aims to promote cycling across the country and help reduce pollution while raising environmental awareness.
What did the Sports Minister say?
The event is organized in collaboration with the ‘Fit India’ initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Indian Cycling Federation, MY Bharat and various sports bodies. The event was held simultaneously in more than 1,000 locations across the country, with more than 50,000 participants. These competitions held at Sports Authority of India regional centres, National Center of Excellence (NCOE) and Kelo India Center (KIC) make it even more important. Regarding cycling, Mandaviya said cycling not only promotes the environment but also inspires people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He said that cycling can enhance physical fitness and is suitable for people of all ages.
