After the heinous incident that took place at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has started a program on women’s safety. It has been named Raltirer Sathi. The objective of this program is to provide a safe environment for women working in night shifts. There will be a separate rest room for women with toilet attached. Women volunteers will be on duty at night. Apart from this, safe areas will be created for women with complete CCTV coverage. Security check and alcohol test will be done in medical colleges and hospitals.

A special mobile app with alarm will be developed for all working women and will be linked to the police station. Apart from this, helpline numbers will be used.

Police can also take these steps
-Government can take many other steps for women’s safety. Police will patrol all medical colleges, and hospitals, women’s hostels and other such places at night.
-There will be adequate drinking water facility on all floors of hospitals etc.

-All employees, security guards etc. working in medical colleges and hospitals will have to keep their identity cards hanging.
-Police officers will be deployed for security in all medical colleges and district hospitals.
-The working hours of women, including women doctors, should not exceed 12 hours at a time.
-Night shift should be avoided for women as far as possible.
-Security guards in government medical colleges and hospitals, district medical colleges and hospitals should be both male and female.

-On issues related to women safety, there will be a program to sanitize all government establishments and private organizations will also have to do the same.

-At least two or more people should work together.

‘My daughter is gone but thousands of sons and daughters are currently on the streets’

It is worth noting that there is an uproar across the country regarding the brutal murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata. At the same time, the victim’s father said that we have full faith in the investigative team. We hope that justice will be served.
