Akhilesh Yadav and Sanjay Singh.
The political situation in Uttar Pradesh is increasingly volatile due to the upcoming by-elections in the state. Meanwhile, a meeting was held between Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh. At this point, the two parties have made important decisions on election strategies. After this meeting, Sanjay Singh announced that the Aam Aadmi Party would support the Samajwadi Party in the by-elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh.
“We will support the Samajwadi Party in the by-elections,” Sanjay Singh said in a statement. “This decision has been taken so that the opposition can unite and stand firm against the BJP.” “Singh further said that there is ideological harmony between the two parties and the decision for this alliance was taken in the public interest.
Why support AAP in by-election?
The alliance between the SP and the Aam Aadmi Party in Uttar Pradesh is considered strategically important. The SP is already the main opposition party in the state and an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party could give it a big advantage. Sanjay Singh has been telling UP that the policies implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and Punjab are in public interest and the same idea can be implemented in Uttar Pradesh.
Questions about changing the by-election date
Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh raised the issue of changing the by-election date from November 13 to November 20 with the Election Commission. He said it was necessary to question the impartiality and role of the electoral commission. He also said the Electoral Commission should ensure transparency in its decisions to maintain public trust.
This decision by the SP and the Aam Aadmi Party is considered a good example of unity among the opposition parties. Even before this, Akhilesh Yadav had repeatedly emphasized the need for unity among opposition parties. After meeting Sanjay Singh, Akhilesh Yadav told the media, “There is a need for the opposition parties to come together on a platform so that we can jointly face the policies of the BJP and issue a message to the people sound.”
Why change the by-election date?
The Election Commission had earlier announced that the election would be held on November 13. However, later in order to extend the election date, the BJP and RLD submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission that since August 15 is the festival of Kartik Purnima, all devotees will go to Prayagraj, Varanasi and Haridwar to bathe in the Ganges two to three days in advance. In this case, they will be deprived of the right to vote. The Electoral Commission has since announced the extension of the by-election date.
