Additionally, the country’s law enforcement agencies are investigating whether the president’s statements amount to insurrection. The first impeachment attempt failed on Saturday as the ruling party boycotted the vote.
Questions about the deployment of police in Congress
Democrats say they aim to hold a vote on the new proposal on Saturday. Police said National Police Agency Chief Cho Ji-ho and Seoul Police Agency Chief Kim Bong-sik were detained at the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul. Police said their role in the deployment of police forces at the National Assembly was under investigation. It is believed the police force was deployed to prevent members of Congress from voting against the president’s martial law order.
