“I don’t want to go to school or study”
Actually, Deng’s 17 year old son Shen was not interested in studies at all and his marks were falling in every school exam. When Deng once scolded Shen a lot about studies, he said – ‘I neither want to go to school nor study, going to school seems like a meaningless task to me.’ Deng got so angry at this that she decided to explain the real struggle of life to her son. She thought that when he will have to earn on his own, then only he will understand the value of flour and pulses.
‘If you work hard, you will become wise in 4 days’
Deng started making him sit on his chicken fry cart. Deng thought that if the boy had to work hard, he would come to his senses in four days and start studying again. But when Shen spent 10 days setting up the cart, Deng was shocked to know his earnings in 10 days. He had earned a total of 10,000 yuan (US$1,400 or 1.17 lakh rupees), meaning he was working very hard.
‘I used to work till three in the morning’
In an interview with The Post, Deng said that he did all this to teach his son a lesson. He did not want to go to school, so I tried to show him a real life challenge that earning money is not easy. But Shen immediately started working. Shen earned 10,000 yuan (Rs 1.17 lakh) in just 10 days. Deng attributed his success to his hard work and the support of loyal customers. According to Deng, Shen would wake up every morning and start cooking at 9 am. He would travel 13 km and set up the stall at 4 pm. Here he would sell chicken all night and return home at 3 am. Deng said – He is very hardworking. I did not expect that he would become so addicted to work.

Well, now Shen has left school due to work. Deng said- I tried to convince him a lot to not leave his studies but he has decided everything. Mother further said- Parents can only support. If he does not live his life according to his wishes, he will not be happy. My priority is that my son should be healthy and happy. I have just taught him not to do anything illegal.
