CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury passed away at the age of 72. Yechury was admitted to the hospital on 19 August due to pneumonia. He had recently undergone cataract surgery. He was also suffering from respiratory disease. He was kept on respiratory support at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Now he passed away on 12 September.

Sitaram Yechury was an important name among the prominent leaders of Indian politics. Apart from politics, he was also very fond of the field of education.

Sitaram Yechury’s education

Sitaram Yechury was born on 12 August 1952 in Chennai but his childhood memories are associated with Hyderabad. Sitaram Yechury completed his 10th standard from All Saints in Hyderabad. After this, he came to Delhi for the Telangana movement of 1969. Here also he continued his studies. After coming to Delhi, he took admission in President Estate School in Delhi. Yechury has studied from CBSE board. He studied from this board and got All India Rank One in class 12th.

After this, Yechury took admission in St. Stephens College of Delhi University. Here he is a student of Economics. He obtained a BA degree from St. Stephens.

Then took admission in JNU

After graduation, Sitaram Yechury decided to go to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He took MA degree in Economics here. After completing post graduation from JNU, Sitaram Yechury took admission to do PhD in Economics.

Yechury started student politics in 1974 by joining the Student Federation of India. He was arrested during the Emergency imposed in 1975. This incident interrupted his academic career and his PhD studies remained incomplete. Due to this, his dream of becoming a ‘doctor’ could not be fulfilled.

During his political journey, he had to go to jail many times. Due to this, his studies were also affected and his dream of PhD remained incomplete. Due to being busy in politics, he could not even complete his studies. His dream was to have a doctorate before his name, but this wish of his remained unfulfilled. Later, he became completely dedicated to politics.
