Former Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia was released from jail on Friday evening. Manish Sisodia has come out of jail after 17 months. Now, speculations have intensified in political circles about his possible return as Deputy Chief Minister in Delhi government. This development has increased interest among the members and leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Many of whom believe that Sisodia should be reinstated as minister without any delay. The supporters’ argument rests on Sisodia’s past track record and current situation, as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is still in jail. Supporters claim that Sisodia is a better choice to lead the government.

However, there are some technical obstacles, due to which there is a problem in the immediate reappointment of Manish Sisodia. Most importantly, the prerogative of appointing ministers rests with the Chief Minister, since Kejriwal is still in jail, he is unable to sign the necessary documents, and hence cannot recommend the appointment of Manish Sisodia. This mandatory process itself is a major hurdle. Apart from this, the process of appointing cabinet ministers in Delhi is different from that of fully developed states. The recommendation of the Chief Minister in Delhi should be sent to the President of India through the LG Secretariat. The swearing-in ceremony of the new minister can take place only after the consent of the President.

Discussion intensifies regarding Sisodia’s role

Assembly elections are going to be held in Delhi in the next 6 months, hence there is a debate going on within AAP regarding the role of Sisodia. Some suggest that their presence in government is important, while others argue that they may be better suited for organizational responsibilities. Apart from this, the health of Sisodia and his wife is also a matter of great concern for the party leaders.

Manish Sisodia will take the final decision

However, the final decision will have to be taken by Manish Sisodia whether he wants to rejoin the government at this time or prefer to guide other ministers in their government duties. All eyes are now on Manish Sisodia, because both AAP and Delhiites are waiting for his decision.
