2021 T20 World Cup winner Matthew Wade bid farewell to international cricket on Tuesday and will now coach in Australia’s limited overs squad. Wicketkeeper-batsman Wade will be part of Andrei Borovic’s coaching staff for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan.
Wade played 36 Tests, 97 ODIs and 92 T20 matches in his 13-year career. The last time he played in the T20 World Cup was this year. He will go on to represent Tasmania in domestic cricket and the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. Wade’s decision was taken ahead of India’s tour of Australia. The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will begin on November 22.

“I’ve been thinking about coaching for the past few years.”
Wade, 36, said in a statement issued by Cricket Australia: “At the last T20 World Cup, I knew my international career was coming to an end. I have spent the past six months working with George Bailey and Andrew Mack Downer Stay Connected I’ve been thinking about coaching for the past few years and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
He said: “Now, as I bid farewell to international cricket, I would like to thank my teammates, staff and coaches in the Australian team. I have thoroughly enjoyed this journey. I could not have come this far without so many great people around me. This step.
Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley said: “Congratulations to Matthew on a brilliant career. I’m delighted he will now help develop the next generation of cricketers.
