The date for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections is yet to be announced. Even before that, political unrest had intensified in Maharashtra. Earlier, the Maharashtra Samajwadi Party announced to contest the BMC elections alone. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday said his party may go alone in the BMC elections. He said party workers insisted that the organization fight alone in the local body elections.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut gave this instruction while talking to reporters. He said party workers were pushing for this. Because there are more contenders this time than in the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. He said, “Uddhav Thackeray and other party leaders are in talks to contest the BMC elections alone. Workers want the party to contest the elections alone.

“…otherwise the city of Mumbai will be separated from the state of Maharashtra”

The indivisible Shiv Sena controlled the BMC for 25 consecutive years from 1997 to 2022. The term of the BMC’s elected representatives will end in early March 2022. Meanwhile, the BMC has not held elections since 2022. “The strength of the party in Mumbai is undeniable. If we had more seats to contest in Mumbai (during the assembly elections), we would have won them,” Raut said.

Leaders of the Shiv Sena’s Uddhav faction claim that Mumbai must be taken, otherwise the city will be separated from Maharashtra. He said, “Even if the (full) Shiv Sena aligns with the BJP, we are contesting elections to the BMC and other municipal bodies independently. We are trying to find ways to do that. Pune, Pimpri-Chinchew The MVA of Tehran and Nashik municipal bodies will remain unchanged.

BMC elections to see grand alliance – Shinde

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde last week said the Shiv Sena will contest next year’s BMC elections under the ruling alliance. Shiv Sena chief Shinde had said, “The BMC elections will be held as a grand alliance in all 227 municipal corporation constituencies.” The state’s ruling parties of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena (Shiv Sena) and National Communist Party (Ajit) All are members of the Mahayutthi Alliance. Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut’s remarks may cause a rift in the opposition MVA alliance.
