Taking a sharp jibe at the National Conference-Congress alliance in the ongoing Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shazia Ilmi today said, It is claimed that similar cooperation in 1987 led to bloodshed, terrorism and suffering in the region.

Addressing a press conference, Ilmi claimed that the new agreement between Omar Abdullah and Rahul Gandhi is similar to the 1987 Farooq Abdullah-Rajiv Gandhi agreement, She claimed the agreement pushed the region toward destruction.
She assured that the BJP would not allow any new deal to bring back that era. “Do you remember what happened because of that agreement? What followed was a period of fighting, bloodshed, terror and pain. Friends, we will not let any new agreement bring back that era. This is not only our commitment, but Our determination.” she said.
Ilmi believes that separatist sentiment grew after the 1987 agreement and that neighboring countries took advantage of the situation, triggering a wave of militancy. “There is a mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, everyone knows that. No one talks about ordinary Muslim families and what they go through. But I think you understand it better than I do,” she added.

She criticized the three political families of Abdullah, Mufti and Gandhi, accusing them of bowing to separatist forces. “We asked these families again and again, who will be held responsible for their actions? Do you remember the Amarnath land transfer dispute in 2008 and the protests that followed?
Ilmi claimed that the abrogation of Article 370 ushered in a new era of development in Jammu and Kashmir. “The 370 feels different, but what good is it? Since the demolition, the economy has progressed and hundreds of bridges and roads have been built; far more than in the past 70 years,” she said.
She accused the three families of enriching themselves during their rule, saying: “They found jobs for their people. It was a time of favoritism.”
Contrasting the BJP’s employment approach with that of the NC, PDP and Congress, Ilmi said: “Their employment philosophy is to pay people to throw stones. Our vision is to provide laptops, books and Open institutions like AIIMS, IITs and IIMs.”
She said these parties made agreements to fool the people and later got divided, but this time, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not be cheated. “This time, the vote will not be for these three families but for every Kashmiri family; for their health, education, development and happiness,” she said.
Shazia Ilmi called for the all-round development of Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that the region must break free from the cycle of terrorism, stone-pelting and harassment that frequently disrupts normal life. “We want to see Jammu and Kashmir become a state free from harassment and violence and move towards development. Mainstream parties like the NCP, People’s Democratic Party and Congress have failed to take necessary steps to make progress,” she said.
Ilmi further added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP envisions a stable and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir where terrorism no longer affects the lives of ordinary people.
Shazia also highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s engagement with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She noted that the Prime Minister always pays attention to the development of the region and ensures that the voices of the people are heard at the highest levels of governance. “Prime Minister Modi has visited the region multiple times and laid out a vision for a prosperous, peaceful Jammu and Kashmir where development is a priority and young people have real opportunities,” she said.
