Sathya Navaratri Poojan Vidhi

On the first day of Navratri, devotees decide to fast. On this day, people commit to fasting for 2, 3 or a full 9 days, depending on their ability. After the decision is made, barley is sown in an earthen altar and the altar is installed on the kalash. In Hinduism, there is a tradition of worshiping Lord Ganesha before doing any auspicious deeds and Kalash is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Ganesha and therefore follows this tradition. Place the kalash on a place washed with Ganga water.

Afterwards, the gods and goddesses are called upon. Store seven types of grains, some coins and soil in the Kalash and decorate the Kalash with five types of leaves. Install Kul Devi’s picture on this Kalash. Recite Durga Saptashati and be sure to light Akhand Jyoti during this time. Finally, perform the aarti of the Mother Goddess and distribute the prasad to everyone.
