Sharad Pawar’s party split ahead of Maharashtra polls, leader deals heavy blow

Sharad Pawar’s National Congress Party suffered a major setback in the Maharashtra Assembly election. Sharad Pawar visited Indapur today but soon after his return, divisions emerged within the party. A disgruntled leader of the Sharad Pawar faction in Indapur, Appasaheb Jagdale, announced his support for Ajit Pawar faction candidate Dattatri Baharane in the mid-term elections.

According to Marathi TV station TV9, Jagdale expressed dissatisfaction with the election of Harshvardhan Patil, leader of the Sharad Pawar faction in the Indapur constituency. Jagdale has said he will not support people who lie to the public. Seeing his displeasure, Sharad Pawar is believed to have reached Indapur, but as soon as he returned, Jagdale started playing games. Jagdale may soon join the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP.

Candidates to contest from Ajit Pawar Group

Not only is Jagdale supporting Dattatreya Bharne, there are rumors that under Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Jagdale will now campaign for Dattatreya Bharne as well. Attacking Harshvardhan Patil, he said he would not support anyone who lies in front of the public. He has since announced his resignation. Sharad Pawar’s party is believed to be in trouble in the Indapur seat due to Jagdale’s decision.

Avoid meeting Jagdale

Sharad Pawar is visiting Indapur today. He met party officials upset over the ticket being offered to Harshvardhan Patil but avoided meeting Jagdale and Praveen Mane, the rebel candidate of the nationalist Sharad Pawar organisation. Soon after, Jagdale announced his decision. Jagdale’s change of party mid-election could also be detrimental to Harshvardhan Patil.
