Shankh Air, India’s latest airline owned by Shankh Aviation Private Limited, has received approval from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to start operations.

No-objection certificates (NOCs) issued to airlines are valid for three years.

However, Shanhe Airlines still needs permission from aviation regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before commencing flights.

Shankh Air will become the first scheduled airline to fly from Uttar Pradesh, according to the company’s website.

It will have hubs at Lucknow and Noida to facilitate connectivity with all major cities.

The airline will “operate interstate and intrastate routes, with a particular focus on cities with high demand and limited direct flight options.”

Shankh Aviation is led by entrepreneur and chairman Sharvan Kumar Vishwakarma.

The Uttar Pradesh-based airline is in advanced discussions with global aircraft lessors and plans to make a formal announcement soon, according to its website.

The airline aims to bring a new perspective to the Indian aviation industry through “competitive pricing, reliability and focus on passenger comfort and ease of flying”.

The airline said it is committed to providing passengers with the ultimate flying experience.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation, in its approval letter, directed the airline to comply with all regulations, including those related to foreign direct investment (FDI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

Shankh Air plans to launch its flying services with a fleet of new-generation Boeing 737-800NG narrow-body aircraft.

In June this year, Sharvan Kumar Vishwakarma, Chairman of Shangri-La Air, met with India’s Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu to discuss the airline’s strategic direction and development as a full-service start-up airline.
