Islamabad: Pakistan is still not free from the disease that India has long controlled. The disease’s name is polio, and it has become a “disgrace” to Pakistan. Three new poliovirus cases have been reported in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, raising the total number of infections this year to 55. The National Institutes of Health Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication has confirmed three cases of poliovirus type 1 (WPV1), Dawn reported. The children found to be infected include two girls aged 8 and 20 months, and a 5-month-old boy. New cases were reported from Dera Ismail Khan, Zhob and Jafrabad districts, an official of the laboratory was quoted as saying. Poliovirus cases have been reported in all three districts this year.
The Sharif government has taken steps
