Ramban, September 15: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for light, medium and heavy vehicles to move in both directions on Sunday.

However, the transport department said that traffic was still slow at various places between the Nashri and Banihal sections of the national highway.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police issued a latest circular stating that no heavy motor vehicle (HMV) and goods-carrying vehicles will be allowed to ply from Qazigund Kashmir to Jammu via Banihal-Qazigund (Navyug Tunnel) or from Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) from 5 am to 5 pm on Monday.

They advised cargo operators transporting fresh perishable goods/livestock to load their vehicles appropriately. They said heavy vehicles would be allowed on both sides after 5 pm on Monday.

However, a senior traffic police officer informed that National Highway 44 will remain open on Sunday for private cars and light and medium passenger vehicles to move in both directions if the weather is fine and the road condition is good.

Sources said vehicular traffic on both sides of the Jammu National Highway between Udhampur and Kazikund in Srinagar will be suspended on Monday during the day for security reasons as the Home Minister will hold an election rally in support of the BJP candidate in the highway town of Ramban.
