After releasing its research report on billionaire Gautam Adani at the beginning of last year, American short seller firm Hindenburg has now targeted Madhabi Puri Buch, the chairperson of India’s market regulator SEBI. And this is also related to the Adani case.

In the report released on Saturday, Hindenburg has claimed that the SEBI chairman and her husband Dhawal Buch had stakes in two offshore funds used in Gautam Adani’s ‘money misappropriation’. First- What is an offshore fund?
According to the Hindenburg report, SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband had stakes in Bermuda and Mauritius offshore funds, which were used on behalf of Adani Group. Offshore funds are also called international funds. In fact, it is similar to a mutual fund scheme that invests in the foreign market, which invests in any special sector or companies or regular income securities.

Hindenburg is a short seller firm run by Nathan Anderson, a graduate in international business from the University of Connecticut, America. It was established in the year 2017. It was named after the Hindenburg airship accident that occurred on May 6, 1937 in Manchester Township, New Jersey. The work of the company is to do research on share market, equity, credit and derivatives. Through this research, the company finds out whether there is any wrongful misappropriation of money in the stock market and issues a research report regarding it.
