SEBI chief did not attend PAC meeting, BJP and Congress face off over Madhavi Buch issue

SEBI Chairman Madhavi Puri Buch

The meeting of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today (Thursday) was postponed due to the absence of SEBI Chairman Madhavi Puri Buch. PAC Chairman KC Venugopal gave this information. He said today’s proposed committee meeting has been postponed as Madhavi Puri Buch expressed his inability to attend.

Venugopal said Butch informed her that she would not be able to reach Delhi due to personal reasons. Venugopal said, “At the first meeting of the committee, we decided that the first topic should be a review of our regulator. So today we called the head of SEBI to review the agency.

First, we sought exemption for the SEBI chief to attend the committee meeting, but we refused, he said. She has since confirmed she will attend the committee hearing. At 9:30 am today, the SEBI chief and other members were informed that she could not travel to Delhi due to personal reasons. Venugopal said it was decided to postpone today’s meeting considering a woman’s request.

BJP charges

The NDA MP complained to the Lok Sabha Speaker against the PAC chairman and said KC Venugopal’s aim was to destroy the financial structure of the country. In this regard, Nishkant Dube recently wrote to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha saying that the PAC has no right to call Madhavi Buch.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said every standing committee would review the regulatory committees related to the sector. But the PAC Chairman made his own decision and called SEBI Chairman Madhavi Buch. How did he decide? The job of PAC is to review the CAG report. According to sources, the CAG did not give any paragraph regarding SEBI in its report. The entire inquiry was unparliamentary, painful and unsatisfactory to all members.

What’s on the agenda?

The agenda of the meeting included oral evidence from representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as part of the decision of the Functional Review Committee of the Regulator established under an Act of Parliament.

There was no objection to the Commission’s decision to include on the agenda a review of the operations of regulatory bodies established by law. Venugopal’s call to Bucher, however, angered members of the ruling party as she had been at the center of a political controversy over Hindenburg’s accusations against the American organization.

The U.S. short-selling firm leveled conflict-of-interest accusations against Bucher, followed by a sharp attack on him and the administration from Congress. PAC member Nishikant Dubey on October 5 accused committee chairman Venugopal of raising meaningless questions to defame the central government and undermine the country’s financial structure and economic stability.

In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Nishikant Dubey accused Venugopal of abusing his power and acting as a “toolkit” to harm the country’s economy. part.
