Taking advantage of this technical glitch in the ATM machine of the State Bank of India, the two committed a fraud of Rs 2.52 lakh. This fraud was perpetrated through stolen debit cards without anyone getting a clue. Scammers reportedly start by stealing people’s debit cards. Thereafter, they took advantage of a technical glitch in the ATM machine to withdraw funds. Normally, once funds are debited from any account, users receive an SMS with information about the funds being deducted, but due to this technical glitch, neither funds will be debited from the users’ accounts nor will they be sent to them Send this message. . However, the money in the ATM machine disappeared.
What is a technical glitch?
You can withdraw funds by entering your card and PIN at an SBI or any bank ATM. Hackers follow the same process, but when withdrawing money, they leave a note in the machine, so the ATM thinks the money has not been withdrawn from the account and returns the remaining note to the machine. Therefore, money is not deducted from anyone’s account, but money is lost from the ATM machine.
The technical glitch was exposed when the bank discovered that funds had been withdrawn from ATMs but not from anyone’s accounts. Later, when bank staff checked the CCTV footage installed on the ATM, they found that the scammers had very cleverly used the Timed Out technical glitch to defraud the bank. The two were suspected after using multiple ATM machines to commit such fraud. It was later discovered that they had done this using stolen ATM cards.
