Sawan Putrada Ekadashi 2024: Ekadashi has great importance in Hindu religion. Ekadashi date is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The festival of Putrada Ekadashi is celebrated on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. This is also known as Pavitra Ekadashi. According to religious beliefs, all the troubles of the person observing fast on this day are removed and Vaikuntha Dham is attained.

According to Shri Padmapuran, in Dwapar era, King Mahijit of Mahishmatipuri was very peace-loving and religious but he did not have any son. The king’s well-wishers told this to Mahamuni Lomesh. Mahamuni told that the king had committed some atrocities in his previous life. Once on the day of Ekadashi, at noon, he reached a reservoir. Seeing a thirsty cow drinking water there, he stopped it and started drinking water himself. It was against the religion for the king to do this. Due to some virtuous deeds in his previous birth, he became a king in his next birth, but due to that one sin, he is still childless.
Mahamuni told that if all the well-wishers of the king observe a fast on the Ekadashi date of Shravan Shukla Paksha and give its merit to the king, then he will definitely get a child. On the advice of Mahamuni, the king along with the people observed this fast. After a few months the queen gave birth to a son. It is believed that since then this Ekadashi came to be known as Shravan Putrada Ekadashi.
Fasting method of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi (Sawan Putrada Ekadashi Pujan Vidhi)
After taking bath on this day, one should wear clean clothes. After this, light a ghee lamp in front of the idol of Lord Vishnu. Worship God with basil, fruits and sesame seeds. This fast should be observed without fasting. You can consume fruits after worship in the evening. After listening to the story of Putrada Ekadashi, reciting Vishnusahasranama gives special blessings of Lord Vishnu. Night vigil on the day of Ekadashi also has great importance.
