The month of Sawan has started. This month holds religious importance in Hindu customs. This month is very important especially for the devotees of Lord Shiva. A lot of care is taken regarding food and drink during this month. There are many things which are left behind in Saavan. People are advised to avoid non-vegetarian food and onion-garlic in this month and eat satvik food. Apart from giving up all this, it is also said in the scriptures to give up greens, curd and curry in Saavan. There are religious and scientific reasons for this.

Today we will tell you why curd, milk and vegetables should not be eaten during Saavan.

What is the religious reason?

It is believed that eating satvik food increases purity and spirituality. Satvik food is fresh and light. Kadhi and saag are undoubtedly nutritious but due to the way they are prepared, they do not meet the sattvik principles.

Apart from this, it is claimed that Lord Shiva loves nature and natural things very much. Only then everything from hemp leaves to Bel leaves are offered to them. Shivalinga is anointed with milk and curd. In such a situation, pundits say that it is wrong to consume the things with which we worship Lord Shiva as food. In such a situation, vegetables, milk and curd should not be consumed in Saavan.

What is the scientific reason?

As the month of Sawan begins, light rains begin, due to which the infestation of animals, germs and viruses in the environment also increases. We all know that curd is made from bacteria only. In such a situation, it is avoided because it is associated with Tamasic qualities.

According to Ayurveda, Tamasic food can cause lethargy. Apart from this, eating curd can also cause problems like cold and cough. Due to this, the spiritual practice of the devotees also gets disrupted.

Insects are also found in leafy vegetables, due to which the leaves get contaminated. These leaves are consumed by animals which give us milk. Due to this, consumption of dairy products like milk, cheese etc. is prohibited in the month of Sawan.
