Interesting story of Sankashti Chaturthi

According to legend, Mother Parvati created Lord Ganesha from the mud of her own body and one day when she was a child, she asked him to sit at the gate while she herself went to take a bath. While leaving, Mother Parvati told Lord Ganesha not to allow anyone to come in, but during this time Lord Shiva arrived there. As Mother Parvati had ordered Lord Ganesha not to let anyone in, Ganesha did not let Lord Shiva in and stopped him at the gate. Due to this, Lord Shiva became very angry and he beheaded Lord Ganesha.

When mother Parvati learned about this after taking a bath, she was very sad. Later, to remove the sorrow of mother Parvati, Lord Shiva placed the head of the newborn elephant on the body of Lord Ganesha. It is said that at that time the severed head of Lord Ganesha fell on the moon. It is believed that the tradition of offering Arghya to the moon is due to this reason. Even on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, offering Arghya to the moon is considered auspicious.
