Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was cleared by the Rajasthan High Court in the Sanjivani Credit Union case. In fact, in the petition filed by Shekhawat, a request was made to quash the investigation along with the FIR. On September 17, 2024, Justice Arun Monga passed the final order in the case and directed the SOG to respond to the question “whether the SOG intends to file charges against Gajendra Singh Shekhawat”.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) submitted a detailed report in the case, saying there was no evidence against Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and he could not be held responsible for the crimes he committed after resigning as director of the company.

In this case, the court while passing the order directed that no case be initiated against the petitioner Gajendra Singh Shekhawat based on the detailed report submitted by the SOG. Aditya Vikram Singh, defense lawyer, said the court had also made it clear that the SOG could not conduct further investigation against Shekhawat without the permission of the trial court.

What is Sanjivani Scam?
Sanjeevani Credit Union was registered in 2008 under the Rajasthan Societies Act. Thereafter, the association was renamed as Multi-State Cooperative in 2010. Those who invest in it are attracted by the lucrative returns. More than 100,000 people have invested around Rs 900 crore in this society. Thereafter, investors’ money was mistakenly lent and interest was not charged. Soon, the association opened branches in many states and issued loans by opening fake companies. The association’s first managing director was Vikram Singh, also a prominent figure in the scam investigation. Vikram Singh, believed to be the mastermind of the entire scam, has also been arrested. There is also said to be a link between Vikram Singh and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and their photos together have gone viral.
