In the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, is on the radar of the CBI. The central investigation agency is busy uncovering the layers of his dark deeds. Meanwhile, a report published in Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post in 2017 about Sandeep Ghosh is going viral. According to this report, former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Ghosh, was accused of touching a male nurse inappropriately in Hong Kong.

Even Sandeep Ghosh was dragged to the court on the complaint of that male nurse. Aaj Tak also spoke to some doctors of Kolkata regarding this report. They confirmed that the report of South Morning China Post is about Sandeep Ghosh of RG Kar Hospital. Another article of Asia Times also confirms this incident. This article also mentions the proceedings of Kowloon City Magistrate Court, where the court acquitted Sandeep Ghosh.

Sandeep Ghosh was accused by a male nurse from Hong Kong

South China Morning Post published this report about Sandeep Ghosh on 29 May 2017. According to it, ‘The male nurse had alleged that while he was changing clothes at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, orthopedic surgeon Sandeep Ghosh tried to pat his left butt and touch his private parts and asked- Do You Like This?’ Sandeep Ghosh had gone to Hong Kong to participate in a clinical attachment program. However, the male nurse had called the allegations against him baseless.

Sandeep Ghosh had told the Kowloon City Magistrate Court that the incident was a misunderstanding. He had said, ‘I woke up that morning and found that my right shoulder was dislocated again – this problem happens to me again and again. So I asked for help from the people in my building. One of them was also a nurse, he could not understand me and left within 15 seconds. I was telling him how to fix a dislocated shoulder, during which my hand accidentally touched his hip. I told him – Do It Like This, which he understood as Do You Like This.’ The court accepted Sandeep Ghosh’s argument and released him.

The body of the trainee doctor was found in RG Kar Hospital

The body of a female doctor was found in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024, who was raped and murdered. As per the order of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the investigation from the Kolkata Police on August 13. During the CBI investigation, it was found that Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had approved construction work near the crime scene on August 10 and ordered the demolition of a toilet and toilet. The CBI suspects that Sandeep Ghosh gave these orders with the intention of destroying evidence.

Corruption investigation is also going on against Sandesh Ghosh

As the investigation progressed, more issues came to light, including allegations of financial irregularities during Sandeep Ghosh’s tenure. Dr Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court urging the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the alleged financial irregularities during Sandeep Ghosh’s tenure. Dr Ali has suspected that the alleged corruption and the lady doctor’s death may be related. He has said in his petition, the victim may have known about the corruption and may have threatened to expose it. That is why she was murdered.

Sandip Ghosh sent to judicial custody till September 23

Taking cognizance of Dr Akhtar Ali’s petition, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation into financial irregularities against Sandeep Ghosh from the state’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI. After several days of interrogation, the CBI arrested Ghosh on September 2 on charges of involvement in financial irregularities. Now the special CBI court has sent the former principal of RG Kar Medical College to judicial custody till September 23 in this case. The court also sent three others – Sandeep Ghosh’s security guard Afsar Ali and contractors Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra – to judicial custody till September 23. The CBI has said that if necessary, it can seek further custody.
