November 21, 2024: Sabarmati ReportA recently released Hindi film based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident has created a stir with its sensitive depiction of the tragic event in Indian history. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film delves into the real-life events of the Sabarmati Express burning incident in Kolkata, Gujarat, which left 59 people dead. The film gained attention not only because of its gripping narrative, but also because it received support from various political figures.

In a notable move, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government announced that the film would be tax-free in the state, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attending the screening and praising the cast, especially the actors Vikrant Massey. Yogi Adityanath expressed his gratitude to the team behind the film for their efforts and said that the film brings out the truth behind the Godhra incident and the divisive forces that existed at that time. He stressed that more publicity will be given to the film through tax exemption in UP with the aim of ensuring that the public knows the true story.

Similarly, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also declared the film tax-free in the state, saying it was a solemn portrayal of the tragic incident. He praised the filmmakers for their sensitivity in handling the subject matter as a tribute to the 59 people who lost their lives in the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the film in response to a social media post, stressing the importance of revealing the truth. His comments on the X platform echoed those of other leaders, stressing that the narrative surrounding the Godhra incident has been shaped by fact and fiction over time. By showing this truth, the film aims to provide a more accurate understanding of what happened during this tragic event.

The film stars Vikrant Massey in the lead and also stars Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles. Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, Sabarmati Report Reflects an ongoing effort to re-examine and understand the complexity of historical events through film.
