Russian snipers have laid siege to the prison and killed four prisoners who had taken the prison security personnel hostage. Information has also emerged that these four prisoners have links with the terrorist organization Islamic State group.

“With four precise shots, snipers of the special forces of the Russian National Guard in the Volgograd region killed four prisoners who had taken prison staff hostage,” state news agency RIA quoted the National Guard as saying. The hostages have been released.

The Federal Prison Service said all four attackers had been killed. It said four of its employees died of stab wounds and others were being treated in a hospital. The prison official also said the attackers had taken a total of eight prison employees and four convicts hostage.

Videos of the incident also surfaced

The attackers also posted a video of their attack on social media. In this video, the victims can be seen covered in blood, while one person’s throat is seen slit in the video. And a prisoner shouted that they are Mujahideen of Islamic State.

Other videos showed the attackers walking around the prison premises, where one of their hostages was sitting with his face covered in blood.

The operation to free the prisoners began when Russian President Vladimir Putin was addressing the weekly meeting of his Security Council. Addressing this meeting, he said that he wanted to hear about the incident from the Home Minister, FSB security chief and the head of the National Guard.
