Washington: The United States once again dealt a heavy blow to Russia. About 400 companies helping Russia are banned in Ukraine. On Wednesday, the United States banned 398 companies from about 15 countries, including Russia and China. They are both accused of providing products and services to aid Russia’s war in Ukraine. The joint action by the U.S. Treasury Department and State Department is aimed at punishing “third-party countries” accused of providing material assistance to Russia or assisting Russia in evading Western sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine.
Let us tell you that Russia launched its first attack on Ukraine in February 2022, and since then many Western countries, led by the United States, have imposed various economic sanctions on Russia. The names of some Indian companies also fall under the ban. The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on 398 companies related to countries that indirectly support Russia. Among them, 274 companies were accused of providing advanced technology to Russia. Russian defense and manufacturing companies were also among those sanctioned.
The United States wants to weaken Russia
The United States hopes to weaken Russia’s power through this step. These companies produce or refine products related to weapons targeting Ukraine. In addition, the U.S. State Department has also imposed diplomatic sanctions on several senior officials of the Russian Defense Ministry and a number of defense and Chinese companies. These companies are involved in the export of dual-use defense products. U.S. Treasury Undersecretary Wally Adamo said the United States and its allies are committed to stopping those who seek to undermine Russia’s war machine and help it circumvent Western sanctions and export controls.
