Moscow: A suspect in the murder of Russia’s nuclear chief was taken into custody on Tuesday. Russia’s intelligence agency said on Wednesday it had detained a suspect in connection with the murder of a top general in Moscow. He is being interrogated. According to intelligence agencies, the arrested suspect is a citizen of Uzbekistan who was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services. It is suspected that this person installed a bomb in the motorcycle with the purpose of assassinating the Russian nuclear leader.
Russia’s “Federal Security Service” did not disclose the suspect’s name, but said he was born in 1995. According to a statement from the intelligence agency, the suspect said during interrogation that he was recruited by Ukrainian special forces. Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was killed in a bomb blast in Moscow on Tuesday. One of his assistants was also killed along with him. The bomb was planted in a motorcycle outside his apartment building.
Ukraine admits responsibility for murder
The day before the assassination of the Russian general, Ukrainian security services filed criminal charges against Kirillov. A Ukrainian official said security services carried out the attack. Kirillov is the head of the Army’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Security Forces. His assistant was also killed in the attack.
