Amid protests across the country over the rape and murder of a trainee female doctor in Kolkata Medical College, a case of assault on a medical student has come to light in Rohtak, Haryana. After the matter came to light, Rohtak-based Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) has expelled the accused resident doctor, who is doing MD in Anatomy.
The police took immediate action in the case of assault on a medical student and arrested the accused doctor. The accused is being interrogated thoroughly. A high level investigation is being conducted keeping every aspect in mind in the case.
Police got the student’s medical done
Rohtak Deputy Superintendent of Police Virendra Singh said that the PGIMS BDS student complained about assault last night. The police team and senior officials of PGIMS immediately reached the spot and immediately took cognizance of the matter and registered an FIR against the accused youth in PGIMS police station. Along with counselling, medical examination of the student was also conducted in front of her family and advocate.

The statement of the victim student has been recorded before the magistrate. In the complaint, the victim girl said that on August 16, the accused doctor kidnapped her from PGIMS and took her to Ambala and Chandigarh and during this time the accused tortured her as well as beat her.
The accused and the victim know each other
Preliminary investigation revealed that both the victim student and the accused doctor belong to PGIMS. The victim student is studying BDS while the accused doctor teaches anatomy. Both have known each other for about 5-6 months. The girl’s statement and investigation have not revealed any case of sexual harassment/rape so far.
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the police conducted a raid and arrested the accused doctor and he will be presented in the court tomorrow. The matter is being investigated thoroughly. The police are in constant touch with the victim and her family and all possible assistance is being provided to her.
