October 29, 2024: Robert Downey Jr. strongly opposes the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to recreate his likeness, especially to resurrect his iconic character Tony in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ·Stark (Iron Man).
in a recent conversation with Kara Swisherwho discusses the impact of artificial intelligence in storytelling with playwright Ayad Akhtar and director Bartlett Sher.

When asked how he felt about deepfakes and artificial intelligence, Downey said: “There are two. How do I feel about everything that’s going on? I feel minimally about it because my emotional life is going on, but there’s not Too much room.” Despite his concerns, he expressed confidence in Marvel’s current leadership, noting that decision-makers would never compromise the essence of his character.
Downey humorously added that he intends to “prosecute all future executives as per the norm,” acknowledging that future leadership may have different intentions. He also discussed his investments in artificial intelligence companies, stressing the importance of ethical considerations and asking: “Who are the people involved in this? Do I think they have an ethical mind?”
Currently, Downey is starring in a stage play McNeilin which he plays a Nobel Prize-winning novelist who uses artificial intelligence to write a new work. Although the show received mixed reviews, his performance was well received.
Going forward, Downey will reprise his role as Doctor Doom in the upcoming film. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
