Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed their views on reservations and caste census during discussions on the constitution in the Lok Sabha. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi in Parliament promised to conduct a caste census in the upcoming elections and raised the issue of breaking the 50% caste reservation limit. Prime Minister Modi has since retaliated by leveling several serious accusations against the Congress over the reservation issue. In this context, we will see in this report how both leaders reacted to the issue of reservation.
In the House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made many serious accusations against the Congress over the reservation issue. He said Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar proposed the concept of reservation for equality and balanced development, but the Congress opposed it and suppressed the Mandal Commission report for decades. Modi said that from Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress was against reservation and on this issue, PM Modi claimed that when Congress fell from power, OBC got the benefits of reservation.
Accused of vote bank politics
He said the Congress has always used reservation as a power-hungry ploy and introduced new reservations on religious basis, which was against the spirit of the Constitution. The Prime Minister said this is the sin of the Congress, which is doing this just for vote-banking politics. Modi also said that the granting of Bharat Ratna to Baba Saheb Ambedkar was done after the Congress party came to power.
Nehru against reservation – Prime Minister
During this time he mentioned that Nehru was against reservation. Prime Minister Modi said Nehru had written to the chief minister opposing reservations and made a lengthy speech in this regard. Similarly, Rajiv Gandhi and his subsequent prime ministers also protested against the reservation issue. Describing this as an important historical fact, the Prime Minister said that the real benefits of reservations will be given to the poor and backward people only after the Congress party is out of power.
Rahul Gandhi’s emphasis on caste census
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has demanded a caste census on behalf of his party. He said that when his government comes to power, the caste census process will begin and after this census, he will promise to break the barrier of 50% reserved castes. Rahul said this step was necessary to restore social and political equality in the country and his government would implement it.
Rahul Gandhi’s statement on reservations
Rahul Gandhi claimed that the BJP government has ruined the future of the country’s youth. He said the PPP had done something like cutting off the thumbs of young people. Rahul also said that he promised that after coming to power, his party would work on caste census and break the 50% reservation limit.
Defend the Constitution and social equality
Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP government of undermining social equality. He said there was no social and economic equality in the country today. He leveled charges against the PPP and the Sangh, saying the PPP talks about protecting the Constitution but when they talk about Savarkar, they violate the Constitution. Rahul made it clear that his party is committed to the caste census process and will take all possible steps to achieve social equality.
