The Youth News Conference once again caused an uproar.
There was an uproar on Tuesday at a meeting of the JPC to deliberate on the waqf amendment bill. As soon as Ashwini Kumar, chief executive of the Delhi Waqf Board, and his team entered the premises for the presentation, the opposition members started agitating and shouting slogans. He alleged that calling the administrator of the Delhi Waqf Board was illegal. The management and team of the Delhi Waqf Board expressed their views at the committee for about an hour.
In his speech, the Delhi Waqf Board clarified its position to the committee and supported the Waqf Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024 proposed by the Modi government. The committee was also informed of cases of illegal occupation of waqf properties in Delhi. As long as the representatives of the Delhi Waqf Board continued to express their opinions, opposition MPs kept shouting slogans near the chairman’s seat.
Delhi Waqf Board managers are not Muslims
Opposition members are angry over the fact that the administrators of the Delhi Waqf Board are not Muslims. By law, non-Muslims are not allowed to serve on waqf committees. In this regard, a BJP MP said that when Arvind Kejriwal was the chief minister, he appointed a Hindu administrator in the Delhi Waqf Board.
The Delhi government should also be heard
Opposition MPs are also upset with the Delhi Waqf Board for expressing its stance without the permission of the Delhi government. And on Monday, after discussions with the Lok Sabha general secretary, the JPC chief said the management of the Delhi Waqf Board can put forward their views before the committee. Addressing the Delhi Waqf Committee, opposition MPs asked JPC chief Jagdambika Pal that the Delhi government’s views should also be taken in this situation.
The chairman of the Judiciary Committee accepted this request from the opposition members. Now, at the next meeting of the JPC, representatives of the Delhi government’s Ministry of Minorities will get an opportunity to present their side before the committee. Earlier on Monday, the opposition walked out of the meeting to protest against the summons of the administrator of the Delhi Waqf Board.
