There is a good news for the people living in the country’s capital Delhi. Now only half the fine will have to be paid for the challan issued for violating traffic rules. Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has announced this scheme. This proposal has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his approval.

Keeping in mind public convenience and to encourage settlement of traffic challans, the Delhi government has decided to settle traffic offences under specific sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 at 50 per cent of the challan amount. This means that people who have been issued a traffic challan can settle their challan by paying only half the amount.

The fine will have to be paid within 90 days

This proposal has been introduced with the aim of settling traffic challans in a quicker and easier way. Under this scheme, for existing challans, the challan will have to be settled within 90 days of the notification. Whereas for challans issued after the notification, this time limit has been kept at 30 days.

There will be ease in settlement of traffic challans

This move will not only make it easier for the public to settle traffic challans, but will also promote compliance with traffic rules. The government believes that this will increase respect for traffic laws and improve safety on the road.

The plan will be implemented as soon as LG gives its permission

Kailash Gehlot said that this step has been taken to make Delhi’s roads safe and improve the traffic system. Now this proposal is awaiting the approval of the Lieutenant Governor. As per the rules, this scheme will be implemented as soon as permission is received. Overall, this scheme is a relief news for the people of Delhi and it is expected that it will get a positive response.
