Red lights on vehicles go off: AAP minister takes to streets to make people aware about pollution

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Roy launches ‘No red light running in Gadi’ campaign

As winter approaches, Delhi’s air quality continues to deteriorate and pollution increases. In this situation, the Delhi government is trying to control pollution and taking a different approach. The Delhi government’s environment ministry on Monday launched the ‘Red lights on, vehicles off’ campaign. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai personally reached the ITO intersection and stopped the vehicle for running the red light. He made people aware of this by giving away roses. Under this campaign, the environment ministry will raise placards at various traffic lights in Delhi to convey the message to people about stopping at red lights.

Gopal Rai said, Yesterday I went to Anand Vihar where I saw CNG and electric buses were running in Delhi but thousands of diesel buses in Anand Vihar were still smoking . Our BJP government is asked to cooperate and not retaliate against the people of Delhi. Instead of trying to increase pollution, try to reduce it.

‘Most of Delhi’s pollution comes from outside’

Minister Gopal Rai said most of Delhi’s pollution comes from outside. We see that with the onset of winter, the pollution levels in Delhi increase. Dust pollution, vehicular pollution and stubble burning also play an important role in Delhi’s winters. It has been two years since the Punjab government was formed. Two years ago, from October to 20th, a total of 2,500 straw burning incidents occurred. Considering the pollution in Delhi today, our government has taken up work in Punjab where the pollution levels are continuously coming down. Incidents of straw burning are decreasing.

But unfortunately, incidents of stubble burning are increasing in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The weather is getting colder now. I appeal to the BJP government and its leaders to also stop the stubble burning incidents in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, he said.

BJP leader’s counterattack

Bharatiya Janata Party chief Virendra Sachdeva holds the Aam Aadmi Party responsible for Delhi’s growing smog problem. He said the reason for the smog problem in the capital was the failure of the Kejriwal government. Sachdeva said the Kejriwal government had not taken any concrete steps to control pollution in Delhi in the past 10 years. He accused the AAP government of corruption and said Delhi’s sewage treatment plants were not functioning properly, causing toxic foam to appear in the Yamuna river.
