Rapido solves major problems in applications. Recently, details of users and drivers of online ride-hailing service providers have been leaked online. Due to this issue in the app, the full names, email addresses, and phone numbers of users and drivers were leaked. A security researcher reported this issue. However, the company has fixed this major glitch in the app.
Security researchers discovered
The issue in Rapido was discovered by security researcher Ranganathan P. During their investigation, security researchers discovered a website form available online to collect feedback from Rapido autorickshaw users and drivers. The feedback form is filled with the user’s full name, mobile phone number, address and other information.
A security researcher told British technology website TechCrunch that the feedback form has been made public due to issues with Rapido’s API. Rapido uses third-party services to obtain feedback. In the leak, 1,800 feedback forms containing user and driver information were made public, resulting in the mobile phone numbers and other personal information of many people being made public online.
May lead to a big scam
Security researchers say a massive scam could be underway as a result of this data breach. Since driver and user information is public, hackers can arrest people digitally. However, Rapido now hides critical information from users and service providers, so there is no risk of being hacked.
Regarding this big data leak, Rapido CEO Arvind Shanaka said that as a standard operating procedure, we will collect user feedback. This feedback is managed by a third-party company. Due to third-party management, user personal information was leaked.
