Director Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayan’ is currently the biggest project of Bollywood which is being watched not only by the audience but also by the industry. The film has not been officially announced yet, but various reports and leaked pictures from the sets have confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor is playing the role of Lord Shri Ram in this film.
Now casting director Mukesh Chhabra has told why according to him ‘Animal’ star Ranbir is the perfect choice to play the lead role in ‘Ramayana’. Mukesh said that after the release of the film, people will also understand why no other actor could have played this role except Ranbir Kapoor. He also told that casting for the character of Laxman in this film was the most difficult for him.
Why Ranbir is perfect for the role of Shri Ram
Mukesh Chhabra told Ranbir Allahabadia in his podcast that director Nitesh Tiwari had cast Ranbir very early in the film’s process. He said, ‘Once you see the film, you will understand why this is the perfect casting. I think I have worked the most with Ranbir and Rajkumar Rao in my career. When it comes to acting, no one can beat Ranbir.’ Explaining the meaning of this, Mukesh further said, ‘He is very neutral about this. He is not much affected by hits and flops. He is only concerned about acting.’
Mukesh said that he has observed Ranbir very closely in films like ‘Rockstar’, ‘Sanju’ and ‘Bombay Velvet’. His biggest quality is that he seems effortless. He further said, ‘Some actors are seen putting in extra effort in the workshop, but you are not able to notice this thing when you see them on screen. The effort that Ranbir puts in his performance, he does not let it be visible to anyone.’
Laxman’s casting was the most difficult
Mukesh told that he chose a newcomer for the role of Laxman in ‘Ramayana’ because many famous actors felt that they would not be noticed in this role in front of Ranbir. He said, ‘We have found a very cute actor for Laxman. Many people had auditioned for Laxman, but I am very happy with the actor we are moving forward with, this will be his first film in Bollywood.’
Mukesh said that the most important aspect of this character is that he loves his brother very much and he does not challenge his brother’s opinion. He also has to maintain his respect, but he cannot dominate the conversation. Therefore, the casting of this ‘simple, straight-talking’ character was the most difficult.
Mukesh said, ‘This is the last role for which we did the casting. We have chosen a young actor who has worked a lot on television, he is a very sweet boy. We couldn’t have found a better Laxman than him. I am very happy that the people we approached earlier refused, because they thought that Ram and Laxman will always be seen together.’
Let us tell you, some time ago it was revealed in the reports that TV actor Ravi Dubey is going to play the role of Laxman in ‘Ramayana’. However, the makers have not said anything officially on this casting. But after a few days, Ravi was also seen arriving for dinner with Ranbir. Apart from Ranbir and Ravi, there are also reports of Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and KGF star Yash working in ‘Ramayana’.
