Rakesh Tikait, leader of the Kisan Union (BKU), was detained on the Yamuna Expressway on Wednesday. He left home to attend the Kisan Panchayat at Zero Point, Greater Noida, but the police stopped him at Tappal in Aligarh, detained him and took him to the police station.
Rakesh Tikait lived in the house of a farmer leader in Thapar. In the morning, he left for Noida to attend the farmers panchayat. During this period, he was also seen walking on the Yamuna Expressway but was later seen sitting in a car. The police arranged a strict interception, stopped the vehicle on the way, and took them out. During this time, an argument broke out between the police and Rakesh Tikait.
Protest against arrest
In protest against the arrest of Rakesh Tikait, other farmer leaders started protesting and blocked the Yamuna Expressway, leading to the blockade of a side road. Seeing the situation escalating, DM, SSP, SP Rural and a large number of police personnel rushed to the spot. Thereafter, Rakesh Tikait was taken to the police station.
Thapar police custody
After his arrest, Rakesh Tikait told the farmers’ committee over phone that he was stopped by Thapar police. He appealed to farmers that they would march towards Delhi and Lucknow if their demands were not met. He also sent a message to farmers asking them to be prepared.
Must attend farmers’ Mahapanchayat
Let us tell you that a farmers’ meeting is being held in Greater Noida on Wednesday and Rakesh Tikait will also participate. Farmers from Uttar Pradesh and surrounding states gathered at this panchayat. A large number of farmers came to the village committee with tractors and trolleys. The Mahapanchayat was called to protest against the arrest of striking farmers in the Dalit Prerna Sthal. Rakesh Tikait expressed his protest and said the arrest of farmers was illegal and wrong.
