Uttarakhand police are investigating the dubious claims of a youth who was “reunited” with two different families – one in Ghaziabad and the other in Dehradun – within a span of five months. He claimed to be their long-lost son who had been kidnapped. The case involves Monu Sharma, alias Bhim Singh, who had made similar allegations in Dehradun and Ghaziabad that he was abducted as a child and Forced to work as bonded labor in Rajasthan.
According to police sources, the man recently came to a police station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, claiming that he was kidnapped 31 years ago, when he was just 8 years old. He told police his name was Bhim Singh and said he was being held in Rajasthan during this time. He was later reunited with a family in Ghaziabad. After this incident came to light, another similar story related to this man also came to light in Dehradun, who until recently lived under a different identity of Monu Sharma.

Police here said that about five months ago, a man reached the Dehradun police station and asked the police to find his parents. The police circulated his photo through newspapers and other media, and Asha Sharma, who had been waiting for years to recognize him as her son, was reunited with her family. Police said Monu left home a few days ago for work in Delhi and never contacted his parents again.
Reunion with new family in Ghaziabad
Asha later learned that her alleged son had asked the Ghaziabad police to find his parents and reunite him with his “new” family there. Asha Sharma said that since Monu came here, he had quarreled with her every day and asked her to throw out the children of her married daughter from the house.
The family begins to doubt
Asha’s husband Kapidev Sharma said he had always doubted whether the man was his son, but he listened to his wife and allowed him to live in their house. He said that before going to Delhi, he also borrowed Rs 8,000 from a person here. Kapil Dev said a police team came to his house in the morning and they told him that now they did not want the man to come back.
Praveen Pant, inspector of the anti-trafficking department who helped the man reunite with his “parents” in Dehradun, said that the investigation into the case is still ongoing and the investigation team will also go to Ghaziabad if necessary. Pant said the young man seemed mentally unstable when he came to Dehradun. When asked about the incident, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said the police were closely monitoring the case that came to light in Ghaziabad. No case has been registered against the person in Dehradun so far, he said.

Ghaziabad police have also contacted Dehradun police and are investigating the matter further. Nimish Patil, deputy commissioner of police, Ghaziabad, said: “There is a contradiction in Raju’s (Bhim Singh) statement as he could not disclose the details of the time he was sent to Dehradun and Ghaziabad. “Raju’s statement is inconsistent and we are investigating the matter thoroughly to verify the veracity of his statement,” he said.
