Actress Mumtaz had a different charm in the 60s and 70s. Her best pairing was with superstar Rajesh Khanna. Now the actress has talked about her real life bond with Khanna. In an interview, Mumtaz told that when she used to work with other actors, Rajesh Khanna used to get angry with her.
Rajesh Khanna used to get angry on this matter
During an interview with Rediff, Mumtaz said, ‘He would get angry if I would sign a film with another hero like Dharmendra ji or Dev (Anand) sahab. But he used to work with other heroines, and I never made a face. He felt that he was my master. But it didn’t matter, it meant he cared about me. The actress also said that she was often compared with actress Sharmila Tagore. But there was no rift between the two.
Talking about Sharmila, Mumtaz said, ‘I respected her a lot. She was much more educated and intelligent than me. I started working at the age of 8. So I got to learn everything on the job. Be it Sharmila or any other heroine, I did not get a chance to interact with them. It was God’s grace on me that not a single film with my uncle (Rajesh Khanna) flopped. Sharmila ji’s films with him were flops.
Will Mumtaz return to acting?
During the interview, Mumtaz was asked whether she was going to return to films soon? To this he replied, ‘I have been offered a huge amount to write my story. I will do this when I am ready for it. I may make a comeback in acting, but there should be something that is worthy of me. I watch the films that are being made these days. There is nothing in them for me. Why would I play the role of mother or sister-in-law? I have always done what I had to do in life. Mumtaz said that she wants to work with ‘Hiramandi’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Mumtaz had given many hit films with Rajesh Khanna including ‘Do Raaste’, ‘Bandhan’, ‘Sachcha Jhootha’, ‘Dushman’, ‘Roti’ and ‘Aap Ki Kasam’. Sharmila was seen with Rajesh Khanna in films like ‘Aradhana’, ‘Safar’, ‘Amar Prem’, ‘Chhoti Bahu’ and ‘Naseeb’.
