In Maharashtra, Narendra Modi explained the meaning of the slogan “If we are together, we are safe”. Modi said Congress is planning to end reservation. Modi said the first step in this conspiracy is to divide tribals, Dalits and backward classes into castes, then pit the castes against each other, and then abolish reservations when these social classes become more vulnerable. At a rally in Maharashtra, Modi said that was why he warned tribals, Dalits and backward class people and repeatedly said, “If we stay united, we will be safe”.
Modi listed caste names for the first time at three rallies in Sambhaji Nagar, Raigarh and Mumbai. In the past, Modi often said at rallies that the Congress Party was against the reservation system and wanted to end the reservation system. But today, for the first time, Modi said by naming castes what the Congress Party’s conspiracy is, what the Congress wants, and what the Congress Party wants. What is the trick behind ending the reservation system?
Reservation is a big issue in the Maharashtra elections and it is one that has to do with emotions. People from Maratha and Dhankal communities have taken to the streets, it’s election time. Therefore, both the Congress and the BJP are trying their best to turn the situation in their favour. But why is Modi naming castes today?
It is necessary to understand its background. The government has a system of reservations for Scheduled Castes and Tribes, which everyone respects and follows. Some complain that some castes get more reservation benefits while others are left behind. The matter came before the Supreme Court a few days ago. The Supreme Court made arrangements for the quota after listening to everyone’s opinions. The Supreme Court said that separate sub-classification can be made under SC-ST reservation. The Supreme Court changed a 20-year-old system. He said reservation should be provided within the reservation for the poor people with greater needs.
The Supreme Court ruling comes ahead of the Haryana elections. The BJP promised the people to implement it. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced in the Haryana Assembly on Wednesday that the cabinet has issued a notification for implementation of the quota system.
Under this provision, 10% quota in government jobs will be allocated to deprived Scheduled Castes and 10% to other Scheduled Castes. 15 castes have been included in the Other Scheduled Castes category and 66 castes have been included in the Poor Scheduled Castes category. Its benefits will reach 66 castes in the poorest Scheduled Caste category. Haryana also became the first state to introduce reservation system for Dalits.
If you listen to Modi in this context, you will understand what he wants to say and what he wants to do. Some castes in Maharashtra receive less reservation benefits. If quota system is also implemented in Maharashtra, then a large section of Scheduled Castes and Tribes will benefit from it. There is now no need to judge who will benefit from the election.
